Vision Cast

How To Vision Cast:

Ideally, could take place the summer before the course is set to begin.

From T. Earl in May 2014

What a great question you asked about how to have the Edison Project retreat in order to Vision Cast for the youth!

Here are some suggestions to think about when you create your retreat:

1. Who are prospective students for Edison Project
2. Where can you hold the retreat
3. What other parents can help you hold the retreat
4. What is your budget?  Can you do it in under $10 so all can come? Do you have any monies from the commonwealth or do you need to charge each student to cover food and gas?

5. Activities to consider:
—A hike with a theme: can be a “silent” hike where the students learn to be still and hear their own thoughts, with a debriefing when you reach your destination and the youth share what they learned about themselves.
—Or a hike where they carry a stone or rock that represents something they are willing to “trade” and give up in order to be who they are meant to be, and they get to lay it down at the end, never to pick it up again.
etc.
—Discussion with a white board about VISION, MISSION, ABILITIES, SKILLS, and KNOWLEDGE. Put each word  up and ask the youth: What “Vision” do you want to gain this year?  Brainstorm for 5 minutes putting EVERYTHING on the board.  Do that for each word.  Take pictures  of the board and have them printed for your classroom.
—Inspirational speaker
—Vision cast with the youth about all the possibilities of their project.  Let them know to start praying about and thinking about it right now and through the summer.  Challenge them to find examples of people who did what they want to do and start studying their lives.  They will be so much more prepared for Fall if they do.

Eat, play games, laugh, cry.

These are just some of the ideas.
